The Neanderthal Connection: Unraveling the Biblical Adam
Written on
Chapter 1: The Genesis of Adam
According to the Book of Genesis, God created man in His own likeness. This notion led Michelangelo to depict Adam in his famous painting as a white, muscular figure. In his artwork, God also resembles a strong, elderly man. However, from a scientific standpoint, most humans, with the exception of individuals from sub-Saharan Africa, carry between one and three percent of Neanderthal DNA. This suggests that Neanderthals did not spread globally, or they became extinct before modern humans emerged in sub-Saharan Africa.
Chapter 2: The Reality of Adam
I recently caught a story on National Public Radio where a scientist discussed the presence of Neanderthal DNA in contemporary humans. His claim indicated that all of us, except for those of sub-Saharan African descent, share lineage with a Neanderthal male and a human female. Hence, the Biblical Adam may have resembled the Neanderthal reconstruction rather than Michelangelo's interpretation.
But what of God's appearance? If humanity was created in the image of a Neanderthal, what would God look like?
Chapter 3: The Role of Asherah
Asherah is often depicted as God's wife, and interpretations of her appearance vary based on ancient texts. This is how Asherah might have looked:
The exploration of our ancestral ties is crucial when questioning religious narratives. To confirm the scientist's assertion regarding Neanderthal DNA, I consulted various resources.
A government paper states: "Several direct-to-consumer genetic testing companies report how much DNA a person has inherited from prehistoric humans, such as Neanderthals and Denisovans. The percentage of Neanderthal DNA in modern humans is zero or close to zero in people from African populations, and is about 1 to 2 percent in people of European or Asian background."
In conclusion, this inquiry reveals the potential appearances of God, Asherah, and Adam through a scientific lens.
