What constitutes healthy food, then? To me, it means whole foods that consist of a single ingredient: the food itself. Examples include chicken, eggs, tomatoes, carrots, and unprocessed nuts.
While some whole foods may be healthier than others—like turkey being a better choice than pork due to its lower saturated fat—generally, the goal is to consume foods free from excessive additives and chemicals, which largely means steering clear of processed items.
If there’s one piece of advice I can share about grocery shopping for a nutritious diet, it’s to select items with no more than five ingredients, ensuring none are artificial or chemical additives.
I won’t be among those who advocate for eliminating carbohydrates entirely, as they are a crucial macronutrient, especially for athletes. However, it’s vital to choose high-quality carbohydrates from reliable sources. For instance, opt for bread and pasta with fewer than five ingredients whenever possible.
As a general guideline, wholemeal or whole wheat options are typically healthier, but always check the ingredient labels for any unwanted additives.
In conclusion, it's important to eliminate all the processed junk from your diet. I genuinely empathize with those who have been raised on unhealthy food choices and have developed a dependency on them, often without any fault of their own.
