Entering the Monotonous Phase — Weight Journey Week 3

Chapter 1: Settling Into a Routine

This marks the third week of my journey toward a weight closer to what I was during my college years over four decades ago. While I don't realistically expect to hit that exact number, getting within 15 pounds would feel like a significant achievement.

At this stage, much of my routine has begun to settle. I've identified the foods I want to prioritize and the exercises I plan to incorporate. While there will inevitably be some interruptions, I aim to navigate them without losing the momentum I've built.

The Week's Highs and Lows

Initially, I experienced a steady decline over the first three days of last week, shedding nearly two pounds. I was prepared for my Thursday dinner outing this time around. I hadn't consumed much earlier in the day and weighed in that morning at a new low for my weight loss efforts.

The dinner was at a Vietnamese restaurant, and I felt I managed my portion well. I opted for a chicken dish with onions and lemongrass since the vegetarian choices were limited. I contemplated leaving some of the rice—over a cup—but ended up finishing it since I didn’t feel overly full.

However, my weigh-in the following morning revealed a gain of 0.6 pounds. This served as a reminder that consistent exercise is crucial for my success, and I hadn’t incorporated enough physical activity that week.

Weekly Progress

Overall, I lost 1.3 pounds this week, bringing my total weight loss to 4.4 pounds over three weeks. While this isn’t a drastic drop, I recognize that my calorie restriction hasn’t been as strict as it could be. Therefore, I need to focus on increasing my vegetable intake, which is nutrient-rich yet low in calories.

I should also be able to fit in a couple of swimming sessions. Although I enjoy walking with my wife, I need to carve out time for solo walks where I can maintain a quicker pace. It’s amusing to see our Google Fit stats, where she often rakes in heart points—sometimes exceeding her daily goal—while I struggle to earn even one.

Nonetheless, spending time with her is my priority. My solo walks will take place when she’s occupied. This will be her final week of teaching before the summer break, and if I can manage to lose two pounds, I’ll return to the weight I had on our wedding day eleven years ago.

After that, I’ll aim for an even lower figure. I’ll provide one last update next week before shifting to monthly updates for a couple of months. This will bring me to my 50th high school reunion, which, while not my primary motivation for losing weight, serves as a nice added incentive.
