Chapter 1: A Lesson from the Blind Man
In times of despair, I often turn to a biblical parable that uplifts my spirit. This story, titled "A Blind Man of Jericho Receives His Sight" (Luke 18:35–43), narrates the experience of a blind man who is begging along the roadside outside Jericho.
As he sits there, he hears a commotion and inquires about it. Someone informs him that “Jesus, the Nazarene, is passing by.” Overjoyed, the blind man calls out to Jesus, but the crowd tells him to be quiet and not disturb. Undeterred, he continues to shout, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!”
Eventually, Jesus hears him and asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man simply asks to see, and Jesus responds, “Receive your sight; your faith has saved you.”
Let’s delve deeper into the key aspects of this narrative. The blind man symbolizes those of us who find ourselves trapped in unfulfilling situations—perhaps a stagnant job or an unhappy relationship. We often feel immobilized, burdened by responsibilities, yet our hearts yearn for something more.
Section 1.1: Recognizing the Call for Change
It’s disheartening to feel stuck, and we shouldn’t sugarcoat it. However, it’s crucial to remain vigilant. The noise that alerts the blind man signifies that a significant opportunity is approaching. He does not hesitate to reach out for it, despite the crowd's attempts to silence him.
The same people who informed him about Jesus are the ones who urge him to be quiet. Yet, he persists, ultimately being brought before Jesus at His request. This reflects a vital truth: opportunities may take time to arrive, and life doesn't always unfold like a movie where everything resolves in an instant.
When those moments finally present themselves, we must seize them, ignoring the naysayers who wish to keep us in our current state. Why? Because that opportunity is meant for you, and it’s crucial to recognize that it is part of your journey.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Importance of Clarity
Section 1.2: The Question of Desire
In the parable, Jesus poses a seemingly straightforward question to the blind man: “What do you want?” This question, however, is often challenging to answer. Many people wander through life uncertain of their desires.
The beauty of being like the blind beggar is that through suffering, we gain clarity about what we truly want. When a transformative opportunity arises, we can respond with certainty because our experiences have shaped our understanding.
Pain teaches us what we desire and what we wish to avoid. This determination fuels our pursuit of that opportunity, as our very existence hinges on it. This inner strength is what Jesus recognizes when He tells the blind man, “Your faith has saved you.”
Chapter 2: The Path to Redemption
In the end, your salvation lies in your hands. You are the one enduring hardship, yet you remain alert for opportunities. You will be the one to claim your chance when it appears.
You must not remain silent when the world urges you to do so. The struggles you face are clarifying your priorities, enabling you to articulate what you seek from life. Ultimately, your resolve will drive you to fight for a better existence.
Even in the darkest moments, like the blind man, holding onto your faith will lead to your reward from the Universe or God.
