For me, this isn't merely a mental exercise! After years of relying on my recliner for sleep, I was pleasantly surprised by the healing benefits I experienced once I began to transition back to a proper bed.
In the past, my Yoga sessions taught me the art of complete relaxation during Savasana. This technique also applies well when lying on a firm mattress. However, during a recent night in bed, I found myself feeling an unusual heartbeat.
This could have been linked to a minor panic episode—financial constraints have been challenging, leading me to lose ten pounds and reach a weight of 120, reminiscent of a Gandhi-style experiment with my diet. Yet aside from the rapid heartbeat, I felt a sense of tranquility.
Then, I recalled a technique a Yoga Therapist had introduced to me decades ago. By deliberately moving my shoulder blades outward—first the left, then the right—I created space for my heart. Suddenly, the pounding subsided, and I was enveloped in serenity.
Section 1.2: Relieving Physical Discomfort
Now, let’s tackle the discomfort and stiffness that often accompany aging. Who would have thought I could still curl into a fetal position, while being mindful of my sensitive hips, ribcage, and knees against the mattress?
Surprisingly, spending a few minutes in this snug position, with covers pulled tightly to my chin, generated an incredible amount of healing warmth, alleviating soreness in my joints and muscles.
These realizations and my journey back to bed didn’t occur instantly; I began this process only about two months ago. Naturally, everyone’s experience is unique, but I hope my insights might resonate with someone else.
