You Are Deserving of Love Just as You Are

Understanding Our Relationship with Our Bodies
The societal norms surrounding body image can be quite damaging. We are conditioned to believe that our bodies must conform to a specific standard of beauty, often defined by being "fit" and "white." This mindset encourages us to focus on how our bodies look rather than how they feel or function.
Let’s explore a refreshing perspective on how to connect with your body…
Imagine your body as an animal you inhabit. It possesses its own wisdom and instincts. Instead of viewing your body as an object, consider treating it like a beloved pet. For example, I affectionately refer to my body as "Sweet Woman" and interact with her as if she were a playful puppy.
"Sweet Woman is ready for a stroll."
"Sweet Woman is feeling a bit hungry."
"Good job, Sweet Woman," I might say after a visit to the restroom.
This approach shifts the narrative from objectification to connection, allowing for a more profound relationship with my body that transcends mere appearance. When I engage in activities like stretching or meditation, I cherish the experience of being within this living creature I call my body.
What if you extended the same kindness to your body that you would offer to a cherished pet? What qualifies a dog for love and care? Simply being a sentient being is enough, right?
Dogs come in various shapes and sizes—some are large, others small, and some may have physical limitations. Yet, none of these traits dictate their worthiness. I once cared for a delightful cat named Coco, who was the largest feline I had ever seen. Her size did not diminish her value; in fact, it only added to her charm. Love for Coco didn't require her to change; it simply existed.
The same principle applies to your body. Establishing a nurturing relationship with your body can render the question of its worth irrelevant. Of course, your body is deserving of love simply because it exists—it is the vessel that houses your unique brilliance.
By treating your body with the same affection you would give to a pet, you can provide the loving attention it has longed for. So why not choose a pet name for your body? Better yet, ask your body what name it would prefer. Write it down and embrace this new perspective!
This practice can help you view your body as a companion deserving of care rather than merely an object to be judged based on its looks.
